♮Cancellation Policy♮

Music lessons are a process of growth that is best achieved by steady application of weekly lessons and daily practice.  While we do understand that life is busy and that you can’t assume for all eventualities, music lessons warrant commitment and priority in a student’s schedule, and that priority is rewarded with progress!

To that end, regular weekly lessons are maintained (either half or full hour), and a time slot that works well for your schedule will be given to you with the assumption of regular attendance. The schedule is currently built out to capacity, and a waitlist is being maintained for new students and schedual change requests! What that means is that we need to approach makeup lessons with greater intentionality and planning. Should you ever need to miss your scheduled lesson, makeup lessons will be handled as follows:

1. If you are unable to make your regular scheduled lesson, we will consult the schedule for the remainder of the week to assess whether there is a later opening left by another student's absence that might work for your schedule.

2. If we are unable to find another availability in the week, we will consult the next week’s schedule to assess whether there may be an opening to stack your lesson and take advantage of the full hour that so many of you have found helpful. [Obviously, this is the gold standard, and we’d like to take advantage of it as often as we can manage.]

3. If we are unable to stack your makeup lesson with your regular lesson for the following week, we will assess your availability for the “Makeup Day” that month (usually the last Monday or Friday of the month, determined as necessary).

4. You may choose to forego a makeup lesson and pay tuition for the missed lesson if your schedule is too full to accommodate the makeup. All national holidays are automatically excused, as are the long Thanksgiving weekend, the week both before and after Christmas, and any hurricane/natural disaster situations; they have been built into the calendar so that you are not charged tuition for lessons that fall on those days (hurricane days to be handled as necessary). Likewise, my own absences do not require a makeup on your part, and are my own responsibility.

5. Early communication for anticipated absences will assure that my schedule is as up-to-date as it can be to accommodate as many needs as arise, as conveniently as possible for everyone.

6. If you find that your current lesson time is conflicting with your changing schedule (as happens in each new change of season), you may communicate your preferred availability to me and I will add your name to a waitlist for the requested time so that everyone’s schedule is optimized.

Any cancellation initiated by me will require no make-up lesson, but make-up lessons are always encouraged.

♮What happens in a Make-up Lesson?♮

Music is a rich and complex world full of new things to discover all the time.  If we think of lesson content as being merely a pattern of instruction followed by daily practice, we miss opportunities to enrich ourselves as musicians and as people.  In the event that a make-up lesson is needed, there are lots of supplemental lesson content options that are fun and interesting.  They include:

    --Improvisation

    --Interpretation and musicality

    --Music History

    --Dexterity

    --Chord play

    --Stage presence and blocking

    --Repertoire exploration

    --Sight-reading practice

    --Vocal care

    --Music Theory

...and lots more, any of which will be chosen and tailored based on each student’s goals, interests, and needs.  I find students enjoy make-up lessons as much as regular instruction, and I do too.

♮Payment♮

I can accept Zelle or PayPal, and I will send an invoice at the beginning of every month indicating the date and time of each lesson planned, which can be paid online through the invoice itself or sent via your own account in either program.  Payment is expected at the beginning of the month, and make-ups will be scheduled as needed for those lessons which must be missed on the scheduled day.
